TCAPS Offers Test Out Opportunity
Application Deadline is April 7, 2025
Under Michigan legislation, high school students may request the opportunity to “test out” of any high school class they select. The intent of Section 1279b is to allow students to demonstrate knowledge and skills they already possess to enroll in higher-level courses.
A student who successfully tests out of a course will receive credit toward graduation for the course. In order to pass, the legislation requires students to achieve a C+ (78%) or better. The test-out grade will simply be a “pass” and will not be included in the calculation of the student’s grade point average.
The test-out opportunity will be offered to high school students at Traverse City West Senior High School library (5376 N. Long Lake Rd) and Traverse City Central High School library (1150 Milliken Dr.) on:
Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (West Senior High School)
Saturday, May 10, 2025, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. (Central High School)
Saturday, May 10, 2025, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. (Central High School)
High school students need to declare their intent to Test Out by completing the online HS Test Out Application on or before the deadline of Thursday, April 7, 2025. For more information, visit www.tcaps.net/testout.
TCAPS also offers this same opportunity for any middle school student who would like to attempt to test out of any required course. The same passing criteria as high school, 78% or better, applies to middle school. Current TCAPS middle school students who are attempting to earn high school credit as part of their regular math or world language classes do not need to fill out the application. To earn high school world language or math credit, TCAPS middle school students will be taking the same test out exams for world language and/or math as any other student, during their regular school day.
The test-out opportunity will be offered to middle school students at Traverse City East Middle School library (1776 Three Mile Rd.) and Traverse City West Middle School library (3950 Silver Lake Rd.) on:
Tuesday, April 29, 2025 during the school day at West Middle School
Wednesday, April 30, 2025 during the school day at East Middle School
Middle school students need to declare their intent to Test Out by completing the online MS Test Out Application on or before the deadline of Thursday, April 7, 2025. For more information, visit www.tcaps.net/testout.
