LL News: 11.24.24 Giving Tree, Thankfulness, & Yearbooks
GIVING TREE: Each year, we are able to sponsor a Giving Tree to support Long Lake families in need. We’re pleased to continue this tradition for another year. If your able to give a gift to a school family this year, please look through the following list and sign up for any item(s) you intend to buy. The sign up is anonymous, so other donors will not see your name or information. You can sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/409044BA9AA2BA64-53008393-long Once a gift is purchased, please wrap it and write the number ona tag or paper attached to the gift so we can make sure each present gets to the right family. Gifts should be dropped off at Long Lake Elementary by Thursday, December 12th. The gifts will be delivered to the families soon after this date, so it is very important to have the gift at the school, wrapped, and tagged by Thursday, December 12th.If it is more convenient, please feel free to have online purchases delivered to Long LakeElementary at the following address: 7600 N Long Lake Rd, Traverse City, MI 49685. Make sure to include the correct number in the "gift message" box Questions can be directed to our office at 231-933-7800. The generosity of our community is amazing. SECOND STEP LESSONS: We want your child to be as successful as possible at school. We all know that success in school in not just about reading and math. It’s also about knowing how to focus during instruction and how to get along with others. Our Social Emotional Curriculum in TCAPS is called Second Step. This program helps students learn about their emotions, how to manage stress, and how to navigate conflict with others. Currently, our students are participating in the Bully Prevention Unit of Second Step. Ask your teacher about HomeLinks related to this unit. Second Step also provides families resources on the topic through a website called Captain Compassion. Students learn about being an upstander instead of a bystander. Make sure to check it out!

During this time of harvest and Thanksgiving, it is also a time for reflection. I want to take this opportunity to thank our school community! Our families are incredibly generous with their time and support for our school. From volunteering to serve our Turkey lunch, helping with Happy Feet, Popping for Popcorn Fridays, and supporting fundraising goals…this community is second to none! I also want to thank our Long Lake staff who work tirelessly to not only meet academic goals but also to help our students navigate their world around them to become successful human beings. We are lucky to work as a team! From our faculty, we wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

Dear TCAPS Families,
To coincide with the spirit of Thanksgiving and a special holiday season, I wish to acknowledge my sincere gratitude to all our families and the greater community. Your trust in TCAPS to provide a world-class education with caring and dedicated staff is possible because of the support we receive from our community. The progress of our students proves we are living our mission and performing in accordance with our vision and values. I am humbled and proud to serve this community and know I speak for others when I say thank you.
TEACHER CONFERENCE MEALS: A special thanks goes out to the families who donated meals for our teachers and to the families who supported our Bookfair last week!
SKI CLUB 2025 is upon us! Join us on Thursdays beginning in January. The program includes a weekly lesson (at least 4) and weekly lift, with optional rental and Sunday add on. In addition, there is also open skiing in March (rental not included). Click he re for more info/links to forms.
PRIDEFUL PARADE: We’re helping our students recognize that success takes hard work and determination! Each teacher has nominated a few students who show exemplary demonstration of our Lifelong Guidelines. Those students will be featured in a Parade at 3:45 PM on Tuesday. Families of students who are being highlighted will receive an email invitation. We look forward to celebrating students each month as we continue to work towards our growth goals!
Thank YOU: We were honored to celebrate our local veterans this past Friday during our Assembly! We are thankful to all those who have served our country! Thank you, Jackie Stremlow Hansen for organizing this event for our school! Thanks to all those who shopped during our Craft Fair on Saturday and to those who donated their time or skills. We’re also grateful to Beth Vanderhulst for leading this fundraising event for our school!

THANKSGIVING MEAL IN CAFÉ: The Long Lake cafeteria staff will be hosting our annual Turkey Meal on Thursday, November 21st. This includes Turkey, Cornbread/Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Corn, and Homemade Apple Crisp. Our café Lead Christine is looking for a couple of parent volunteers to help with serving the meal that day. Our lunches run from 11:50 a.m.-1:10 p.m. Please contact Christine Novak novakch@tcaps.net or 933-7818 if you can help!
