TCAPS Administration Building Plans Move to Glenn Loomis

With the upcoming sale of the Ida Tompkins Boardman Administration Building, Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) will begin relocating Administration staff in March to the Glenn Loomis school building, located at 1009 S. Oak Street. Glenn Loomis has been mostly vacant since TCAPS Montessori moved to its new location on Franke Road at the start of the 2023-2024 school year.  

The move to Glenn Loomis also includes changes for TCAPS Board of Education. Beginning May 27, all Board of Education meetings will be held at Glenn Loomis and live streamed through the district’s webpage www.tcaps.net for remote viewing. As a cost savings, the district will no longer televise through channel 190. Historical meetings will remain accessible on TCAPS Media YouTube page.

TCAPS Printing Department, which has grown to encompass an entire floor of the Ida Tompkins Boardman Administration Building, will move operations to TCAPS Sabin Data Center, 2075 Cass Road in June, 2024. This alignment provides ample space for the extensive machinery and allows for equal proximity across the district for deliveries. All other departments, including Office of the Superintendent, Human Resources, Business Office, Licensed Child Care, Communications, Curriculum & Instruction, and Special Education will relocate to Glenn Loomis this spring. TCAPS will provide the community with regular updates throughout the moving process.

TCAPS sale of the building was due to aging infrastructure and the cost associated with needing extensive renovations. The building was purchased by Boardman Building, LLC for $750,000. The local company seeks to construct residential condos for downtown living while preserving much of the building’s historic character.
