Bekah Wineman

Rebekah Wineman

Grammy Nominated Audio Engineer
West Senior High School, Class of 2009

Rebekah (Bekah) Wineman graduated from TCAPS in 2009. After graduation, Bekah attended the University of Memphis in Memphis, TN, where she received a Bachelors of Music in Audio with Honors. She then received a Masters of Music in Audio from McGill University in QC, Canada. She is now a Grammy Nominated audio engineer, working at Marketplace as Technical Director of East Coast Bureaus. She's also worked with NPR, The Wall Street Journal, and Meyer Media LLC with Andreas Meyer.

While attending Traverse City West Senior High School, she participated in a wide array of school programs and organizations. She says the many niche groups available to students greatly impacted her in a positive way because her creativity was being nourished not just by band, but by orchestra, pit orchestra, theater, Madrigal dinners, and so on. "There was no end to what kind of creative vision you could have."

When asked about her favorite teachers and what about her TCAPS education helped her most, she said, "I have so many favorite teachers! Ms. Brumbaugh, Ms. Humphreys, Mr. Kolbusz, Mr. Rice, and Mr. Ready just to name a few. They are all wonderful people who challenged me in different ways, and to think differently about the world. I never believed I couldn't do something, and I think that has a lot to do with my schooling and my upbringing."

Since leaving TCAPS, Bekah says she is most proud of being nominated for a Grammy, learning how to not overwork herself, believing in her own value as a person, and sticking up for herself in a professional environment.

When asked what advice she has for students today, Bekah said, "Success looks differently to different people. There is no one size fits all when it comes to personal and professional success. It also takes time to figure out what you want to do and what you are good at. You're allowed to live outside the confines of a 9-5 work life, 2 kids, and a white picket fence, but it's also okay to want that too."
