TCAPS Vacant/Obsolete Property

Overview

Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) owns three properties which are currently vacant/obsolete. Anyone wishing to make an offer to purchase one of these parcels may submit it to 412 Webster St. (attention: Christine Thomas-Hill, Associate Superintendent of Finance and Operations, 933-1730). Offers should include the purchase price and a detailed explanation of the proposed use of the property. Prospective purchasers are encouraged to use the sample purchase agreements, which can be found below.

Any offers will be presented at a Board Finance and Operations Committee meeting, at which time they may be recommended to go to the full Board of Education for review/approval.

The Board of Education reserves the right to reject any or all offers, to negotiate with any or all prospective purchasers, and to accept the offers which the Board of Education, at its sole discretion, determines best serve the interests of the district.

Vacant/Obsolete Property RFP Process History

On Monday, June 12, 2017, the Traverse City Area Public Schools Board of Education authorized the school district to issue requests for proposals (RFPs) for four vacant/obsolete properties, including:

  • Thirteenth Street
  • Potter Road / Four Mile Road
  • 11180 Cedar Run Road
  • Church Road

Sealed bids were due by August 7, 2017, at 12:00 p.m. A bid for the Thirteenth Street Property was accepted by the Board of Education on August 14, 2017. The purchase agreement for the property is in the process of being finalized. On August 14th the Board of Education also determined that it would continue to accept offers on the remaining three properties, however it would not go through another RFP process or list the properties through a REALTOR.

Timeline/Process

  • July 10 – August 7, 2017:  RFPs Posted/Advertised
  • August 7, 2017:  Bids Due 12:00 p.m. (412 Webster St., attn.: Christine Thomas-Hill)
  • August 14, 2017: Board of Education accepted bid for Thirteenth Street Property
  • Present: Board of Education is accepting offers on the three remaining properties, which may be submitted at any time.
