TCAPS Hosts Safety & Security Training Thursday at West Senior High School
Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) will conduct on-site training for area schools, staff members, emergency personnel, and first responders on Thursday, June 13 at West Senior High School (WSH).
The community should be aware of the potential ongoing presence of emergency vehicles as part of the event. Additionally, all other events scheduled indoors at WSH between 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Thursday have been moved to West Middle School or other locations within the district. Soccer will remain as scheduled at the WSH outdoor soccer fields. A TCAPS school bus will be onsite at WSH to transport students to West Middle School for the relocated events if needed.
“We believe in the importance of training for the unthinkable,” commented TCAPS Director of School Safety and Security Patrick McManus. “In the event of a real emergency, we want staff to lead with knowledge and an understanding of all procedures. This opportunity provides the confidence to do so.”
This is the second year TCAPS has held scenario drills for training. Last year, the district hosted a similar event at TCAPS Montessori. The experience includes over 100 volunteers, medical support, and on-site law enforcement. The training is expected to begin by 8:30 a.m. and conclude by 1:30 p.m.
