Welcome to Traverse City High School
Home of the Mavericks!
Traverse City High School is one of three high schools within the Traverse City Area Public Schools’ (TCAPS) district. TC High is an alternative high school focused on students' needs and abilities, while offering a flexible individualized approach for the successful completion of high school and entry into the workforce.
Students attending Traverse City High School have a full range of intellectual capabilities, but may have difficulty with traditional time structures, lecture formats of learning, or have social issues that occupy a large portion of their energies. These students can, and want to learn; however, often the focus of that learning is not consistent with the way the curriculum is delivered in the comprehensive traditional high school. Classes are performance-driven, self-paced, and designed to meet graduation requirements. Teachers apply new skills, use physical resources and time differently, and make expanded use of the community.
Helping students learn how to make wise decisions, manage conflicts, and work individually and in groups is also a part of the vision of TC High School. There is great focus on the individual needs of each student. In addition, the staff and students work collaboratively in the evolution of a program that will successfully carry students into the 21st century.
Our Mission
To cultivate life-long learners in an environment that provides alternatives for meeting their unique needs so all will become confident, productive, and responsible community members.
