Summer Academy

Credit Recovery Information (CR)

Credit Recovery classes are for students who did not receive credit for a course and earned a 50% or higher in the course. 

• Attendance Requirement: Support session, daily, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
• Teacher Support: Highly-qualified TCAPS teachers will be available for questions and troubleshooting.
• Pacing Support: Progress will be monitored with home communication twice per week to help support ongoing participation and pacing. 
• Completion Requirement: Once a course is completed at the set proficiency level, the course is concluded and credit is awarded. TCAPS students will not need to follow-up. Students can finish courses prior to the end of Summer Academy. 
• Course Allotment: Up to two courses can be taken at any given time.

Initial Course Information (IC)

Students that are interested in earning initial credit for a high school course, during Summer 2024, may do so via Michigan Virtual High School (MIVHS). Courses taken for the first time through MIVHS will allow students to fulfill a graduation requirement to either accelerate to the next course level or free up scheduling space for a different class during the school year. All of these courses will be done completely independently of TCAPS through the same online platform that TCAPS students take during the school year. MIVHS offers quality course credit and grades that will transfer to a student's TCAPS transcript and will be recognized by most colleges and the NCAA Clearinghouse.

Courses Offered

Courses are offered by semester. They will be either run through a third party platform that certified TCAPS teachers oversee, or through locally developed courses that will be built in the district’s Brightspace learning management system. Semester A is the first semester and Semester B is the second. Courses are offered as credit recovery. Working with your counselor is recommended when determining the courses you should take.

Mathematics

• Personal Finance (one semester course, CR)

Science

• English Language Arts (ELA)
• ELA 9 (A CR, B CR,)
• ELA 10 (A CR, B CR,)
• ELA 11 (A CR, B CR,)
• ELA 12 (A CR) -  B semesters are available by counselor request only due to the senior research project requirement.

Social Sciences and History

• US History (A CR, B CR,)
• World History (A CR, B CR,)
• Economics (one semester course, CR)
• Civics (one semester course, CR) - Civic participation is a requirement

Other Courses

• Psychology (one semester course, CR) - Counselor approval required
• French 1 (A CR, B CR,) - Counselor approval required

Tuition and Payment

• The full cost of a Credit Recovery class is $150.
• Full or partial scholarships are available based on need and availability.
• If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, please work with your counselor and/or Assistant Principal.
• Enrollment is official when payment is received and log-ins will be issued as early as June 13 or upon receipt of payment.
